AUDI HAS EXPANDED THE Q5 mid-size SUV range with the addition of the new Q5 Sportback and SQ5 Sportback models, combining coupé-inspired design with the versatility, performance, and premium appointments that have long defined the Q5 nameplate. Priced from $84,500 (plus on road costs), the new models provide Australian customers with a choice of five distinct variants, including the striking SQ5 Sportback TFSI edition one, available for a limited time.
Following the successful arrival of the third-generation Q5 SUV earlier this year, the Sportback variants bring an even sportier design character, advanced technology, and enhanced driving performance, while maintaining the practicality and premium features that have made the Q5 one of Audi’s most important models globally and in Australia.
Since its launch in 2009, the Audi Q5 has become one of the brand’s most important models, with more than 25,000 Australian deliveries across two generations. Globally, the Q5 has found over 1.6 million homes, a testament to its balanced combination of premium design, advanced technology, and everyday usability. The third-generation Q5, introduced earlier this year, represents a bold evolution, with the adoption of the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architecture and a fully electrified range of mild-hybrid drivetrains. The new Sportback body style now completes the lineup, offering Australian customers a coupé-inspired alternative that combines striking looks with near-identical practicality to the SUV, including a generous 515-litre luggage capacity in the Q5 Sportback.
“The Audi Q5 has been a cornerstone of our success in Australia, and the arrival of the Sportback body style ensures its appeal continues to grow,” said Jeff Mannering, Director of Audi Australia. “With its sleeker silhouette, highly efficient electrified drivetrains and advanced technology, this new body style strengthens the appeal of the Q5 family while giving Australian customers a compelling choice in the premium SUV segment.”
The Q5 Sportback is distinguished by its lower roofline, coupe-like silhouette, and taut, muscular proportions, delivering a more dynamic stance than the SUV variant. Despite the sleeker shape, practicality remains uncompromised, with generous seating for five adults and a luggage compartment capacity of 515 litres beneath the parcel shelf, only five litres less than the Q5 SUV. The streamlined body also delivers aerodynamic benefits, while new design touches such as the available OLED rear lights and a rear projection light below the spoiler enhance both safety and presence on the road.
Audi Q5 Sportback TFSI and TDI: efficiency meets everyday versatility
The entry point to the Sportback range is the Q5 Sportback TFSI 150 kW, powered by a four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 48-volt mild-hybrid (MHEV plus) technology. Delivering 150kW of power and 340Nm of torque, it drives the front wheels via a seven-speed S tronic transmission, enabling acceleration from zero to 100km/h in 8.6 seconds. The MHEV plus system enhances efficiency by allowing short periods of electric-only driving at low speeds and providing energy recuperation during deceleration without the need for charging infrastructure.
The Q5 Sportback TDI quattro 150 kW variant shares its specification with the TFSI but is powered by a four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with MHEV plus technology, producing 150kW and 400Nm. Power is delivered to all four wheels through Audi’s quattro ultra all-wheel drive system, ensuring confidence and traction across varying road conditions. Performance improves to a 100km/h sprint of just 7.4 seconds.
Both the TFSI and TDI quattro share the high level of standard specification introduced with the third-generation Q5, including S line exterior styling, 19-inch alloy wheels, Matrix LED headlights with selectable signatures, Audi’s next-generation curved panoramic MMI display, and leather-appointed interiors with heated front seats. Convenience features such as the digital key, gesture-controlled electric tailgate, and three-zone climate control underline their appeal as practical, premium SUVs.
Audi Q5 Sportback TDI quattro 150 kW sport: elevated style and luxury
For customers seeking additional luxury and visual distinction, the Q5 Sportback TDI quattro 150 kW sport builds on the already generous specification of the TDI quattro with sportier and more premium appointments. This variant adds 20-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof with electric sunshade, and sport front seats with integrated headrests. The interior is further elevated with an S line interior package featuring leather upholstery with contrasting stitching and S embossing, stainless steel pedals, a three-spoke flat-bottom sport steering wheel, and a black headliner. These enhancements create a more dynamic environment to match the diesel engine’s robust performance and efficiency.
Audi SQ5 Sportback TFSI 270 kW edition one: performance with exclusive character
To commemorate the arrival of the new Sportback range in Australia, Audi is offering the SQ5 Sportback TFSI 270 kW edition one as a limited time launch variant. Powered by a 3.0-litre V6 TFSI engine with MHEV plus technology, producing 270kW and 550Nm, the SQ5 Sportback accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.5 seconds, underlining its position as the performance leader of the range. The edition one enhances the SQ5’s dynamic credentials with exclusive 20-inch Audi Sport alloy wheels in black metallic, S sport suspension, red brake callipers, privacy glass, and a black exterior styling package with anthracite Audi rings. This edition provides a compelling blend of performance, style, and value at a sharp entry point into the SQ5 Sportback lineup. Available for a limited time at a highly competitive price point, the edition one delivers flagship SQ5 performance with a unique, collectible edge.
Audi SQ5 Sportback TFSI 270 kW: the ultimate expression of Audi sport DNA
At the top of the range, the more permanent, non-edition one SQ5 Sportback TFSI 270 kW delivers the full breadth of Audi Sport-inspired performance and luxury. Its 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine with MHEV plus technology develops 270kW and 550Nm, matched to quattro all-wheel drive and a seven-speed S tronic transmission. The result is breathtaking acceleration and dynamic agility. With acceleration of 0-100km/h in just 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h, the SQ5 Sportback embodies Audi’s performance ethos in a family-friendly form.
Beyond performance, the SQ5 Sportback showcases an elevated level of standard specification, including metallic paint, 21-inch Audi Sport alloy wheels, aluminium-look exterior styling, and acoustic glazing for added cabin refinement. Inside, the premium leather upholstery with diamond contrast stitching and perforated rhombus pattern is complemented by seat ventilation and massage function for the front seats. A head-up display, colour ambient lighting pro with dynamic interaction light, and a Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium Sound System with 16 speakers complete the cabin’s suite of luxury and technology.
Technology, safety, and assistance
All Q5 Sportback and SQ5 Sportback models feature Audi’s latest Android-based MMI system, with a curved panoramic display that integrates the 11.9-inch Audi virtual cockpit plus and a 14.5-inch OLED MMI touch display. Connected services are supported by Audi connect plus, while wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard as well as an inductive phone charging with built-in cooling.
Safety and assistance features are equally advanced, with all variants equipped with 360-degree cameras including kerb view, park assist plus, proactive occupant protection, Audi side assist, lane departure warning, and nine airbags, including a front centre airbag. Adaptive cruise control with stop and go, speed sign recognition, and rear occupant detection are also standard. The third-generation Q5 has been awarded a five-star ANCAP safety rating, scoring highly across all categories of occupant and pedestrian protection, with the rating covering all variants including the Sportback body style.
Peace of mind for Audi owners
As with the Q5 SUV range, all Q5 Sportback and SQ5 Sportback models are backed by Audi Australia’s five-year warranty, six years of roadside assistance, and a twelve-year bodywork manufacturing warranty against corrosion perforation. Five-year service plans are available, providing added convenience and value priced at $3250 for the Q5 and $3560 for the SQ5.
Audi owners also receive a complimentary membership during their warranty period to Audi Experience, Audi Australia’s bespoke loyalty program that offers access to exclusive national events, intimate Audi Ambassador experiences and premium partner offers.
