NOT ONLY IS THE BMW i4 Gran Coupe returning to the range, the fully-electric luxury car comes in below the fuel-efficient Luxury Car Tax threshold.

A sole variant will feature in the new line-up – the i4 eDrive35 – with the new offering carrying a range of updates, from styling elements to power electronics.   

The enhanced BMW i4 eDrive35 will be priced at $88,900 (plus on road costs), keeping it below the fuel-efficient vehicle Luxury Car Tax threshold of $91,387. 

The BMW i4 has struck a chord with Australian new car buyers, with 3340 registrations recorded to the end of September since it was introduced in early 2022. The i4 eDrive35 – which was added to the line-up in Q4 2023 – has accounted for 2523 of that total.  

New exterior styling increases presence; interior features upgraded equipment 

A key difference between the styling of the updated model and its predecessor is the inclusion of M Sport Package as standard equipment. 

Key highlights of the M Sport Package include variant-specific front apron, side skirts, rear bumper and diffuser element to provide an authoritative, sporty presence. The i4 eDrive35 is fitted with 18-inch M light alloy wheels as standard, with 19- and 20-inch wheel designs available as options. 

The M Sport Package complements the other styling tweaks that mark the updated i4, including a new BMW kidney grille with a diamond-textured surface and striking new headlights featuring vertical structures for the daytime running lights and turn signal indicator functions. 

Inside, the updated BMW i4 eDrive35 includes a new flat-bottomed M leather steering wheel with a 12 o’clock marker and seat heating for driver and front passenger. 

An electric glass sunroof is now also included as standard specification and aids in bathing the cabin in natural light during the day.

The revised interior additionally features a new operating concept for the ventilation and climate control functions, delivering a premium touch.  

Silicon carbide technology delivers increased driving range

In complement to the styling enhancements, the updated BMW i4 is now fitted with silicon carbide semiconductor components in the power electronics (SiC inverter), reducing consumption by around 4.5 per cent on average. 

This results in an overall improvement in driving range by 18km, raising it to 448km from 430km of its predecessor, according to the ADR 81/02 testing cycle. 

Other technical details remain as before, with fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology comprising a 66.4kWh (net) high-voltage battery and rear-mounted current-excited synchronous electric motor. Power and torque figures are 210kW and 400Nm, with the standard sprint achieved in just six seconds.
