BYD HAS CONTINUED TO OFFER outstanding range from its electric vehicles, with the Seal 6 Sedan and Seal 6 Touring promising a range of 1000km from its hybrid models.
At a time when the cost of living is forcing Australians to think twice about the type of vehicles they drive, along with the amount of driving they do, BYD is helping to minimise hip pocket pain with its range of world-class new energy vehicles offering both electric-only and Dual Mode (DM) Super Hybrid performance and efficiency.
The new Seal 6 Sedan Essential and higher-grade Seal 6 Touring Premium feature BYD’s latest DM 5.0 Super Hybrid powertrain technology. Both offer a projected driving range over 1000kms on a single tank, capable of covering the distance from Sydney to Brisbane under test conditions.
In fact, based on WLTC testing, the estimated WLTP-equivalent combined driving range for the Seal 6 Sedan Essential is expected to exceed 1400kms, and the Seal 6 Touring Premium 1300kms. As this is a test cycle, actual range will vary depending on driving conditions and use.
The key to long-distance driving lies in the DM 5.0 Super Hybrid powertrain. It is designed to maximise electric driving while maintaining ultra-low fuel consumption. It pairs a high-efficiency 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine – achieving an exceptional 46 percent thermal efficiency – with BYD’s proven electric motor and LFP Blade Battery technology.
The Seal 6 Sedan Essential battery has 10.08kWh capacity and delivers 55kms of pure-electric driving according to the WLTP combined test cycle; while the Seal 6 Touring Premium with larger capacity 19kWh battery delivers 100kms of zero CO2 tailpipe emission driving in the same test conditions.
The Seal 6 Sedan Essential is priced from $34,990 plus on-road costs and the Seal 6 Touring Premium from $39,990 plus on-road costs, making both a compelling proposition for Australian families wanting space, practicality and affordability in a vehicle other than an SUV.
The Seal 6 is offered in two distinct body styles to suit different Australian lifestyles.
The Seal 6 Sedan delivers a sleek, refined design with a traditional boot, offering a more classic and sophisticated driving experience. Its aerodynamic body, with a drag coefficient of just Cd 0.255, enhances both efficiency and range while contributing to a confident on-road presence.
For those seeking maximum flexibility, the Seal 6 Touring combines the same advanced plug-in hybrid technology with increased practicality. Featuring up to 670 litres of cargo space, expandable to 1535 litres with the rear seats folded, the Seal 6 Touring is ideal for growing families, active lifestyles and weekend adventures. Roof rails, a powered tailgate and generous interior space further enhance its versatility.
Both variants share class-leading dimensions and a long 2790mm wheelbase, delivering impressive rear-seat legroom, a flat rear floor and a comfortable, spacious cabin for all occupants.
Inside, the Seal 6 features a modern, thoughtfully designed cabin with premium touches and intuitive technology. Highlights include an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch central touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a suite of connectivity and convenience features designed to enhance everyday driving.
Safety remains a core focus, with all Seal 6 variants equipped with seven airbags, BYD’s ultra-safe Blade Battery, and a comprehensive range of advanced driver assistance systems including Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Detection, Child Presence Detection and DiPilot Level 2 Intelligent Driving Assistance.
BYD Australia Chief Operating Officer Stephen Collins said the Seal 6 expands the choice of new energy vehicles for Australian buyers.
“The Seal 6 Sedan and Seal 6 Touring continues the BYD commitment to offer Australians a range of advanced electric and intelligent plug-in vehicles that suits their needs and lifestyles.”
“We will continue to grow our local lineup as we help all Australians transition to cleaner, more efficient mobility without sacrificing performance, practicality or value.”
The Seal 6 Sedan and Seal 6 Touring will be available for order from 9 April.
