THE ARRIVAL OF YET ANOTHER new Chinese brand hardly raises a ripple today, but newcomer Denza (a BYD sub-brand) has confirmed that the attractive Z9GT will join its expanding Australian lineup.
The Z9GT is one of the star cars at the 2026 Melbourne Motor Show and is Denza’s boldest statement yet – demonstrating how a pioneering force in new energy engineering and design can challenge and surpass established global luxury and performance benchmarks.
It will be the first model sold in Australia with BYD’s next-generation Blade Battery 2.0 technology and FLASH ultra-fast charging which is set to revolutionise vehicle charging.
Denza Z9GT deliveries will commence in Q3 of this year, with the first FLASH charging sites at selected Denza dealers in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide expected to be operational during Q4.
With the FLASH charger’s peak 1500kW DC capability, hundreds of kilometres of real-world driving can be added in the time it takes to grab a coffee, with ‘filling up’ from 10 percent to 97 percent expected to take approximately nine minutes.
In CLTC tests overseas the Z9GT has a range of around 820 kms, making it right to support the demands of Australian long-distance travel, providing extensive touring capability and significantly minimising range anxiety.
The Z9GT rides on the brand’s new e3platform which features a world-first three driving motors for unprecedented performance and manoeuvrability when it comes to parking, for example.
The grand tourer redefines fast, offering supercar-rivalling performance with EV precision. System output is expected to be around 850kW – over 1130horsepower – enabling a zero to 100km/h sprint time in 2.7 seconds.
Not just fast. But smooth. The Z9GT will be the first vehicle to feature advanced DiSus-A air suspension, which together with the e3platform ensures the Z9GT remains composed, confident and comfortable at all times – even when the unfortunate happens, such as a tyre blowout which can occur when driving long distances on Australian roads. The onboard software helps manage a blowout at highway speeds in milliseconds by actively controlling power delivery, steering behaviour and braking at the same time.
The Z9GT is a vision bought to life by head of design Wolfgang Egger, who described the sculptured exterior design and bespoke interior as the culmination of a “creative university” involving more than 1200 designers and engineers from around the word.
It embodies the “Elegance in Motion” philosophy — where performance, technology and beauty are inseparable.
Inside, the cabin delivers a distinctive interpretation of modern luxury, which pays tribute to centuries of Chinese mastery in exquisite design and surface finish quality.
Highlights include premium Nappa leather seating with massage, ventilation and extended leg rests, a 50-inch augmented reality head-up display, Devialet premium audio, ambient lighting with 128 colour selections, and a built-in refrigerator — features designed to elevate both driver engagement and passenger comfort.
The Z9GT is luxury performance defined by both tradition and innovation, where legacy craftsmanship and new-generation technology come together in perfect harmony.
