ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR of the current large utes (which Ford calls “full-size trucks”) is Ford’s F-150 range, so the announcement that Ford has ugraded specifications and released the latest prices will be welcome.

The refreshed F-150 line-up introduces exterior and interior changes across the range, along with a new, luxurious ‘Platinum’ series, further enhancing the appeal of the iconic full-size pick-up truck in Australia.

Sitting atop the F-150 range, the new Platinum series redefines premium for Australian truck buyers. It features as standard distinctive exterior elements including bold black and smoked metal accents, 20-inch wheels, ‘Platinum’ branded accents, auto power-deployable side steps, a multi-folding hard tonneau cover, and bespoke suspension tune using Continuously Controlled Dampers.

The interior is equally impressive, boasting a black onyx luxury trim, plush multi-adjustable front seats with multi-massage functionality, and an innovative fold-flat sleeping mode for ultimate comfort during breaks.

F-150 XLT also receives a slew of improvements, including LED exterior lighting, and the larger 12-inch infotainment and driver instrument displays as standard.

The updated F-150 continues to be powered by the formidable 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine, producing 298kW @ 6000rpm and 678Nm @ 3100rpm for an effortless 4500kg maximum braked towing capacity, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and available exclusively in 4×4 Crew Cab configuration. It also retains the 136-litre fuel-tank, part-time 4×4 on the XLT, and full-time 4×4 on the Lariat and Platinum.

“We are thrilled to bring the refreshed F-150, including the new Platinum series, to our Australian customers,” said Ambrose Henderson, Marketing Director, Ford Australia. “For supreme cross-country touring ability while towing or hauling – the F-150 is without peer.”

“The F-150 has a legendary reputation globally, and with these enhancements we are confident it will continue to resonate strongly with those who demand capability, comfort, and sophistication.”

“We’ve listened to our customers that have been asking for a full-size truck that offers an elevated, more luxurious experience, and the F-150 Platinum does exactly that. Who doesn’t love massage seats on a long road trip?!”

While customers will continue to have the choice of both Short Wheelbase  and Long Wheelbase body styles across all three variants, for the first time the updated F-150 will now have price parity between both wheelbase options, giving customers the freedom to choose the tray size that best suits their hauling needs.

The prices for both SWB and LWB variants of the updated F-150 are:

  • XLT: $114,950
  • Lariat: $143,950
  • Platinum: $163,950

The only option available for the updated F-150 is Prestige Paint on the XLT and Lariat with price of $750. Prestige Paint is a no cost option on the Platinum. The available hues across the range are listed in the below table as either standard (s), optional (o), or a no cost option (nco):

While retaining the class-benchmark 4500kg maximum braked towing capacity, the updated F-150 has seen improvements to its GCM and GVM, subsequently increasing its payload across the range.

Standard on the Lariat and Platinum in Australia for the updated F-150 is the innovative and flexible Pro Access Tailgate. With three different ways to open, the new Pro Access Tailgate provides a convenient customer experience that allows for easier access and utilisation of the bed, even when hitched to a trailer.

Adding the Pro Access Tailgate makes the F-150 the only pick-up in its class to offer a 100-degree fully opened integrated swing gate that opens using one hand or the key fob. The swinging door also has built-in resistance thanks to the use of check stops, which help avoid banging the door into a connected trailer hitch.

Loading and unloading is also made easier, thanks to the open swing gate reducing the length required to reach into the tub to retrieve and store cargo by up to 48cm.
