THE REBORN FOTON TUNLAND is the newest contender in the burgeoning ute segment, and a definite contender for many intending buyers, who have been waiting to see just how keenly it has been priced.
Joining the emerging category that sits between traditional dual-cab Utes and full-size pick-up trucks, the Foton Tunland offers the best of both worlds delivering the strength and space of a larger workhorse while maintaining the practicality and efficiency of a traditional ute.
With pricing now confirmed from $39,990 (perhaps a little surprisingly, plus on road costs), customers are invited to register their interest in the new Foton Tunland ahead of first vehicle arrivals from Q3 2025. Entering as a bold new force in the Australian ute segment, the next-generation Tunland has been engineered from the ground up to challenge convention. It draws on Foton’s global truck-building expertise to deliver commercial-grade durability, real-world capability with SUV-like comfort – all wrapped in a value-packed offering tailored to Australian drivers.
Available in both 4×2 and 4×4 configurations, the Tunland range is powered by a muscular 2.0-litre Aucan turbo-diesel engine paired with 48V mild-hybrid technology and a refined ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. This proven combination balances performance, efficiency and everyday usability, and enables a braked towing capacity of up to 3500kg, making it ideal for hauling heavier loads with confidence.
Australia’s newest hybrid Ute will be offered in two grades – V7 & V9 – delivering distinct personalities to suit different needs:
- The V7 focuses on core durability and commercial usability, ideal for fleets and trades with over 1000kg payload.
- The V9 introduces a higher level of refinement for diverse lifestyle needs, featuring upgraded multi-link rear suspension, providing a smoother ride and the highest levels of comfort and technology
Additionally, the new Foton Tunland will proudly launch with a comprehensive seven-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, providing added peace of mind for customers and enhancing the ownership experience from day one.

Model lineup:
- V7-C 4×2 – a value-driven workhorse, perfect for fleets and trade, combining robust capability and everyday comfort.
- V7-C 4×4 – Adds four-wheel drive confidence, rear differential lock, more drive modes and increased versatility for both work and recreational use.
- V9-L 4×4 – Ups the ante with multi-link rear suspension.
- V9-S 4×4 – The range-topping model, equipped with front and rear differential locks, panoramic sunroof, and the highest levels of comfort and technology.
Tuned for the diverse demands of Australian roads and worksites, the new Foton Tunland has been locally tested across tens of thousands of kilometres to ensure it is fit for purpose in real-world conditions. Building on the factory’s extensive global development, Foton Australia has undertaken additional testing on local soil – traversing sealed and unsealed roads, steep hill climbs and descents, and tackling sand, dirt and mud.
Technology systems and drive modes have been rigorously evaluated to meet the expectations of both commercial users and everyday drivers, ensuring the Tunland delivers confidence, control and durability across diverse terrain.
With 240mm ground clearance, 28 degrees approach and 26 degrees departure angles, and a robust chassis with commercial DNA, the Tunland is equally suited to weekday jobs and weekend escapes.
General Manager of Foton Australia, Glen Cooper, said that the new Tunland hits the sweet spot, it’s the goldilocks of Ute sizing.
“The all-new Tunland is a fresh and capable new contender in the ute segment, offering commercial-grade space and toughness, combined with the comfort and technology modern drivers expect. We’ve backed that up with tens of thousands of kilometres of local testing to help ensure it’s tuned for Australian conditions and built to deliver exactly what drivers need – whether it’s for work, play, or everything in between. We see real potential for the Tunland to shake up the category by delivering greater versatility, space, and refinement in a truly value-packed offering.”
Final product specifications and features will be confirmed closer to official launch.
