HYUNDAI’S IONIQ N IS AN EXCITING high performance vehicle, and the latest has just arrived in Australian showrooms. 

Building on the lauded IONIQ 5 N, IONIQ 6 N applies relentless evolution to deliver a fun-to-drive, ultra-high-performance EV in the form of a striking streamliner sports sedan.

Designed to set a new benchmark for driver engagement in a high-performance EV, the development of IONIQ 6 N was guided by Hyundai N’s three-pillar philosophy: Corner Rascal, Racetrack Capability, and Everyday Sportscar. 

Through bold design, meticulous development, and leading-edge technology, IONIQ 6 N blends track-ready performance with daily usability.

Corner Rascal 

IONIQ 6 N delivers exceptional cornering precision through advanced, low roll-centre suspension geometry, technology such as stroke-sensing Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS) dampers, an e-LSD, and 20-inch forged alloy wheels wrapped in N-specific Pirelli P Zero 5 tyres. 

Wide fenders and aerodynamic additions, including the motorsport-type swan-neck rear wing, deliver increased downforce while achieving a low 0.274 coefficient of drag. 

Body rigidity is optimised through additional weld points, the increased application of structural adhesives, and additional reinforcements, to underpin responsive steering, superb refinement and exceptional ride. 

An advanced braking system combines high-performance hardware with intelligent controls to support both daily driving and track use, while maximising energy recovery.  

Supporting IONIQ 6 N’s driver focus, inside the cabin are N lightweight sports seats, an exclusive N Pasubio steering wheel featuring customisable N1/N2 buttons, N-exclusive metal pedals, and an N knee support pad. 

Racetrack Capability

IONIQ 6 N is meticulously crafted to excel on the racetrack, delivering an electrified experience that seamlessly blends power, control and technology.  

With N Grin Boost activated, IONIQ 6 N produces 478kW and 770Nm, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds (using N Launch Control). 

IONIQ 6 N features N e-Shift, which amplifies responsiveness and driver engagement by replicating the feel of close-ratio gearshifts. The latest system is upgraded to work with key performance features such as N Launch Control and N Drift Optimiser. 

N Track Manager further heightens racetrack performance by enabling custom track design, lap-time monitoring, and real-time insights. 

An upgraded N Drift Optimiser system now offers drivers the ability fine-tune their drift initiation, angle and wheel spin, to suit a range of preferences and skill levels.   

An advanced N Battery system brings optimised battery temperature management to suit a range of track driving scenarios, to maximise performance and longevity. 

Multi-charging architecture brings 400V-800V compatibility and the capability to ultra-fast-charge the 84kWh battery from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 18 minutes. 

Everyday Sportscar

Track-honed IONIQ 6 N is also a refined, comfortable everyday companion, with a cabin that blends style and motorsport inspiration: highlights include Performance Blue accented Alcantara suede and leather trim, a front N logo with welcome lighting, and aluminium N emblems. 

At the heart of the IONIQ 6 N experience is N Active Sound+, a dynamic, multi-channel audio system that enriches the drive with immersive soundscapes such as the motorsport-inspired ‘Ignition’, EV performance-themed ‘Evolution’, and futuristic ‘Lightspeed’.

N Ambient Shift Light creates a multi-sensory connection, enveloping occupants in a synchronised glow to ensure gear changes are both seen and felt.

EXTERIOR

IONIQ 6 applies striking streamliner styling inspired by the RN22e concept car to maximise aerodynamic performance while showcasing Hyundai’s vision for the ultimate all-electric N vehicle. 

IONIQ 6 N features a glossy black N exclusive bumper with integrated splitter, bold fenders and a grille design that reflects the high-performance visage of its multi-award-winning counterpart IONIQ 5 N.
Aerodynamic wing-type air curtains and an EV N-exclusive luminous orange strip contribute to a low and wide frontal image. 

IONIQ 6 N exhibits a sleek silhouette anchored by gloss black lower body trim and N-exclusive black 20-inch forged alloy five-spoke wheels revealing large brake discs and red high-performance callipers. 

At the rear, taillights featuring the signature parametric pixel design and a motorsport-type swan-neck wing further the dynamic image while providing up to 100kg of downforce. 

A glossy black lower bumper completes a broad and low rear impression and continues the luminous orange lower strip from the side skirts into the rear bumper diffuser. 

Six exterior colours are offered including the N Exclusive Performance Blue, which is now enhanced with the addition of pearl flake. 

Abyss Black Pearl, Serenity White Pearl and Nocturne Grey Metallic are also offered, along with Nocturne Grey Matte and Gravity Gold Matte. 

INTERIOR

The IONIQ 6 N cabin is designed to support high-performance and track driving while providing an intuitive and comfortable space for the day-to-day. 

N lightweight sports seats with heating and ventilation, an N exclusive Pasubio steering wheel with centre mark and N1/N2 buttons, N metal pedals, and console shin-support pads are all focus on giving the driver direct and intuitive control. 

An N Ambient Shift Light feature incorporates mood lamps into the dashboard and door trims that responds to the virtual engine rpm to provide an emotive and immersive high-performance experience. 

IONIQ 6 N features black Alcantara and leather trim with Performance Blue accents. 

AERODYNAMICS

Aerodynamic IONIQ 6 N strikes a sophisticated balance of efficiency and stability and features a motorsport-type rear wing to create high-speed downforce with a minimum of drag. 

IONIQ 6 N achieves a low 0.274 Cd through a series of passive and active aero design elements. 

A front splitter and deflector guides enhance underbody airflow, while air curtains guide air around the bumper and over the aero-optimised wheels and tyres. 

An active grille shutter optimally balances cooling air requirements with drag reduction, while a 3D-optimised rear undercover and diffuser complete a smooth underbody.      

BODY STRUCTURE

The IONIQ 6 N monocoque provides a strong basis for elevated handling, ride and NVH through a range of rigidity enhancements. 

Compared with an equivalent passenger sedan, IONIQ 6 N brings a significantly greater number of weld points around the door openings and at the junction of the passenger cell and the front PE bay, along with an increased application of structural adhesives. 

The addition of rear bulkhead diagonal braces increases torsional stiffness by 19.8 percent, and a high-rigidity glass fibre-reinforced undercover reinforces the front suspension arm mounting points. 

Specific reinforcements around the rear wheel arch strengthen the rear suspension load-bearing structure and stiffen the damper mounting points to further enhance high-performance ride and handling. 

RIDE & HANDLING

IONIQ 6 N showcases the latest refinements in high-performance all-electric N driving characteristics in a highly evolved sports sedan package. 

Optimised suspension geometry gives IONIQ 6 N a low roll centre to provide maximum grip and stability for high-performance track driving. 

Integrated Drive Axles (IDA) at each corner integrate the wheel-side joint and hub to free suspension movement and increase axle lateral stiffness compared with a conventional axle design. 

A stroke-sensing integrated Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS) utilises sensors to detect suspension movements in real time and maintains body and wheel control by automatically adjusting the damping force, to deliver an optimal blend of handling and comfort. 

An electronic Limited Slip Differential (e-LSD) underpins maximum traction and launch performance and enhances high-speed handling. 

High-performance Motor Driven Power Steering control logic delivers consistent feel up to the tyre grip limit, which it conveys to the driver through a natural reduction in feedback force. 

In addition, Torque Steer Compensation logic enhances straight-line stability during rapid acceleration.   

A steering mount void bush supports steering precision and response while maximising NVH performance.

Vibration-damping front and rear fluid-filled Hydro-G suspension bushes provide a further layer of performance and refinement by optimally balancing handling responsiveness and comfort. 

Specific tuning of the electronic stability control system brings a combination of stability and driving fun across a range of surfaces in ESC Sport mode. 

BRAKING

IONIQ 6 N delivers high-performance braking through a combination of powerful friction brakes, electronic stability control logic, and regenerative braking. 

Four-piston monobloc callipers clamp 400mm front disc rotors, which are teamed with 360mm rear rotors. 

N Regenerative Braking enhances range and efficiency during high-performance driving with an expanded application of maximum regenerative braking mode, while Normal and Sport brake feel tunes bring everyday confidence and agility respectively. 

New-generation Smart Regenerative Braking 3.0 furthers efficiency gains by automatically adjusting regenerative braking level based on traffic flow, navigation data and driving style. 

REFINEMENT

IONIQ 6 N applies a series of NVH-reduction technologies to provide a quiet cabin and a refined drive. 

A dual-laminated acoustic windscreen and front door glass, a reinforced undercover, and upgraded door sealing each serve to block external cabin noise. 

In addition, the application of decoupler floor carpet reduces external noise intrusion and maximises sound absorption. 

Motor noise is reduced and the tonal quality enhanced through motor controller specification changes and a specifically tuned switching frequency, to further enhance refinement. 

POWERTRAIN

IONIQ 6 N is underpinned by a 448kW, 740Nm dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain that can produce 478kW and 770Nm with N Grin Boost engaged, to accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 3.2 seconds (with N Launch Control activated). 

At the front, a high-output drive system integrates a 166kW, 350Nm motor (without N Grin Boost), a reducer and an inverter, with the primary rear motor drive contributing a further 282kW and 390Nm. 

A 400V/800V multi-charging system featuring a high-capacity Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) brings ultra-fast charging capability, to charge the 84kWh battery from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 18 minutes.

HEATING & COOLING SYSTEMS

High-performance heating and cooling systems underpin IONIQ 6 N’s racetrack capabilities, these include: 

High-Output Battery Preconditioning Heater

A 7.0kW high-output battery preconditioning heater provides optimal battery warm-up performance, reducing battery conditioning time by more than 14 minutes (N Race Sprint). 

Integrated N Battery Functionality

Combines the N Battery Preconditioning and N Race systems to automatically optimise battery performance based on the track driving focus (Drag, Sprint or Endurance). 

High-Performance Heat Exchanger

Heat exchanger performance is upgraded by increasing the capacity of both the motor oil cooler and the battery chiller. 

Application of Integrated Radiator

Application of an integrated radiator (two-row cooling module) enhances cooling performance, while a unified inlet design improves airflow and reduces drag. 

N-EXCLUSIVE EV HIGH PERFORMANCE FEATURES

N e-Shift

N e-Shift provides a satisfying and intuitive high-performance driving sensation by simulating the feel of gear shifts. 

Virtual shift jolts are accompanied by high-performance sound effects in conjunction with the N Active Sound + system. 

Compared with IONIQ 5 N, enhanced gear ratios enable more frequent shift events during daily driving and maintain a higher RPM in N mode. 

N Ambient Shift Light utilises the cabin ambient lighting to create a multi-sensory connection between driver and vehicle, with an immersive synchronised glow ensuring every gear change is both seen and felt. 

The N e-Shift system is also upgraded to operate simultaneously with N Drift Optimizer, N Launch Control, N Grin Boost, N Torque Distribution, Smart Cruise Control, and Speed Limiter. 

Drive Mode coverage of N e-Shift is also expanded to include ECO Mode and the system brings the additional shift pattern functions Downhill Assist and Upshift Delay. 

Ignition sound mode will automatically activate when N e-Shift is activated and N Active Sound + is turned off.

N Active Sound + (NAS+)

User-selectable sounds give the driver aural feedback to accompany powertrain performance based on rpm, speed, torque and accelerator position, delivered through interior and Hyundai-first exterior speaker technology. 

There are three sound profiles to accompany the unique EV N driving experience:

  • Ignition: High-performance ICE motorsport sound with a backfire sound effect
  • Evolution: An evolved high-performance EV sound inspired by N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo
  • Light Speed: A sci-fi sound concept in place of IONIQ 5 N’s ‘Supersonic’ sound

Sound selection is via the user interface or by N shortcut steering wheel button customisation, and custom drive mode allows for the user’s choice of sound profile. 

N Drift Optimiser

N Drift Optimiser enables drivers to drift expertly with ease by automatically optimising body control and torque distribution to each wheel. 

The system increases torque distribution to the rear motor, while applying dedicated torque and regenerative braking maps, and managing wheelspin speed. 

Adjustable tip-out regenerative braking, Drift Assist: ESC (angle) control and TCS (wheel spin) control have been incorporated, and braking or stopping is not required for system activation. 

N Drift Optimiser can now be used simultaneously with N e-Shift. 

To initiate an instant power slide, a torque kick can be activated by pulling and releasing both paddle shifters simultaneously. 

N Launch Control

N Launch Control makes it easy to achieve maximum acceleration performance from a standstill. 

The system automatically activates N Grin Boost (0-100km/h in 3.2sec) and brings three road-grip levels to suit a range of surface conditions – Low, Medium and High. 

N Road Sense (NRS)

The N Road Sense (NRS) system prompts the drivers to activate N mode when it recognises a double curve road sign. 

N-EXCLUSIVE EV RACETRACK FEATURES 

N Torque Distribution (NTD)

N Torque Distribution (NTD) lets the driver adjust the front and rear torque distribution to suit their preference, driving style and the road conditions and is now compatible with N e-Shift. 

The system offers 11 levels of front-to-rear drive balance, including:

  • Front-wheel drive: for maximum driving stability around curves
  • All-wheel drive: for optimal traction and performance on slippery/wet roads
  • Rear-wheel drive: for enhanced straight-road performance and optimal drifting 

N Pedal

N Pedal mode allows one-pedal track driving to let less experienced drivers easily do quick weight transfers or tuck the nose like a pro. 

The mode combines specific control logic for the regenerative braking system, torque distribution and motor responsiveness. 

N Grin Boost (NGB)

N Grin Boost (NGB) unleashes maximum power and responsiveness on demand when the driver hits the red button on the steering wheel. 

Combined motor output increases from 448kW to 478kW for 10 seconds with a corresponding boost to responsiveness. The function can be re-engaged after a pause of 10 seconds. 

N Battery

N Battery maximises track endurance by managing battery cooling and output to suit the driving conditions and brings the following modes:

  • N Battery Drag: A drag racing mode that maximises battery output and acceleration performance, with a higher 30-40°C target battery temperature
  • N Battery Sprint: A mode for lap-time track driving that automatically applies N Grin Boost as required
  • N Battery Endurance: Extends track driving range by optimally balancing output with battery consumption, with a 20-30°C target battery temperature 

TPMS Custom Mode

Allows the driver set target tyre pressure to suit a range of high-performance road and track conditions. 

N Track Manager

Custom circuit management enables user-created track maps, lap timing, and circuit sharing.

In addition, features such as Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 bring convenience by letting users complete automated parking manoeuvres from outside the vehicle.
