IN ANOTHER CHANGE TO ENGINE specifications, Mazda have replaced the 1.9-litre with a new 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel delivering more torque and power. Further increasing the appeal, optionally available is 4WD and an additional two gear ratios for even greater efficiency.
The new 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel increases power by 10kW to 120kW and torque by 50Nm to 400Nm. The boost in performance is delivered via a new eight-speed transmission, which also contributes to a reduction in fuel consumption of up to 0.7L/100km and as much as 17g/km of CO2 compared to its predecessor.
Available exclusively in XS specification and as a Single Cab Chassis, Dual Cab Chassis or Dual Cab Pickup configuration, the capable ute offers highlights such as LED headlamps, cruise control, a reverse camera, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto all fitted as standard.
Previously only available as a 4×2 in the 1.9-litre, the new 2.2-litre engine can now also be specified as a 4×4 Dual Cab Chassis or Dual Cab Pickup.
The Dual Cab Pickup version also benefits from alloy wheels while steel wheels suffice for the rest of the BT-50 XS range.
In addition, the proven 3.0-litre engine fitted to all XT model grades and above now also benefits from a new Idle Stop System, which can cut fuel consumption by as much as 11 percent by switching off the engine when the ute is stationary.
Elsewhere, XTR and GT 4×4 Dual Cab Chassis models will now feature a towbar as standard for even more practicality out in the field.
The rest of the BT-50 model line-up is unchanged, with five model grades in total to choose from: XS; XT; XTR; GT and the range-topping SP.
The new Mazda BT-50 range will be available to purchase from October in dealerships nationwide. An expansive selection of Mazda Genuine Accessories are also offered for the BT-50 range, all with a five-year, unlimited km warranty when fitted prior to delivery.
