THE MERCEDES-BENZ YOU’D LOVE to own, if only your pockets were deep enough, has just been extended with the addition of two new models, the Mercedes-AMG GT 43 and the GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+. The two new models offer contrasting takes on performance, one focused on lightweight agility and the other designed for enthusiasts seeking ultimate capability on road and circuit.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 43: agile cornering artist with extremely dynamic handling

The AMG GT 43 is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing up to 310kW and 500Nm. Acceleration to 100 km/h is achieved in 4.6 seconds, with a top speed of 280km/h. Its use of an electric exhaust gas turbocharger, derived from Formula 1 technology, ensures immediate throttle response across the rev range.

The electric exhaust gas turbocharger, adapted from Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 technology, integrates an approximately four-centimetre narrow electric motor directly on the turbocharger shaft between the turbine and compressor wheels. This motor electronically accelerates the compressor before the exhaust gases take over, resulting in faster response from idle and across the rev range. The system delivers higher torque at low speeds, sharper acceleration, and improved agility, while also maintaining boost pressure during braking or throttle lift-off to ensure consistent, immediate response.

The engine is paired with a 48-volt mild hybrid system that can briefly deliver up to an additional 10kW. This system also supports efficiency functions such as coasting and energy recuperation. Rear-wheel drive contributes to a purist handling experience, highlighting agility and direct driver feedback.

“Our AMG GT family is at the top of our portfolio and embodies the spirit of our brand: Driving Performance. We are therefore delighted that this family is now growing to include the GT 43. It is clearly recognisable as a GT but is clearly different from the other models. It appeals to customers who love design and focus on elegance but are unwilling to compromise on driving pleasure and driving dynamics. The rear-wheel drive concept makes the GT 43 a very agile vehicle that will put a smile on your face on winding roads,” said Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH and Head of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class & Mercedes Maybach divisions

Features and design of the GT 43

The GT 43 distinguishes itself with narrower front and rear fenders, a redesigned front apron with large air intakes, and round twin tailpipes. The interior adopts a 2+2 configuration with folding rear seats, enhancing practicality and allowing luggage capacity up to 675 litres.

The AIRPANEL active air control system and extendable rear spoiler work together to optimise aerodynamics and cooling. Electronically controlled slats behind the front air inlet remain closed to reduce drag but open when cooling demands increase, while the rear spoiler adjusts its angle based on factors such as speed, acceleration, and steering. From 80 km/h onwards, the spoiler shifts through five positions to balance stability and aerodynamic efficiency.

The AMG DYNAMIC SELECT system offers up to six driving modes – from “Smooth” and “Comfort” through to “Sport+” and “RACE” – allowing drivers to tailor the vehicle’s handling and performance to suit different conditions and preferences.

The Australian specification of the GT 43 includes the AMG DYNAMIC PLUS Package as standard, which bundles high-performance components for even greater driving dynamics. These include an electronic AMG rear axle locking differential and dynamic AMG engine mounts. Moreover, the package features AMG brake calipers painted in yellow, a suspension lowered by 10mm and an active aerodynamic profile made of carbon-fibre in the underbody in front of the engine.

Further standard equipment on the GT 43 includes AMG RIDE CONTROL adaptive suspension, a Burmester surround sound system, head-up display, DIGITAL LIGHT headlights, and advanced driver assistance systems as part of the Driving Assistance Package Plus.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 43 interior blends traditional design with digital innovation, featuring a fully digital, customisable instrument cluster and a driver-focused cockpit layout. At its centre is an 11.9-inch touchscreen with the MBUX infotainment system, offering intuitive controls, AMG-specific displays, and functions like “AMG Performance” and “AMG TRACK PACE.”

For the first GT 43s to arrive in Australia, the AMG Prime Package will be available as an option, enhancing the luxury of the cockpit with climatised front seats, Multicontour seats for driver and front passenger and dashcam functionality.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+: Even more agility for the racetrack

At the top of the range, the AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ builds on the performance of the AMG GT 63. Its 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine has been tuned to deliver up to 450kW and 850 Nm – 20kW and 50Nm more than the GT 63. Acceleration to 200 km/h on the racetrack takes just 10.9 seconds (0.5 seconds faster than the AMG GT 63), with a top speed of 317km/h.

The GT 63 PRO sharpens responsiveness via advanced systems including ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension with active roll stabilisation, standard rear-axle steering, active aerodynamics, and fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive to enhance handling and performance.

The enhancements are supported by reinforced high- and low-temperature cooling circuits, additional radiators in the wheel arches, and active cooling of the all-wheel-drive transfer case and differentials. These measures ensure consistent performance, even under heavy circuit use.

“The new AMG GT 63 PRO is the sportiest model in our AMG GT family. If you’re looking to not only enjoy your AMG GT on the road but also tackle some fast laps on the racetrack, the GT 63 PRO is the ideal choice. We have boosted the engine’s performance and enhanced aerodynamics with elements such as the new front apron and additional air deflectors on the underbody. Additional radiators in the wheel arches and electric water pumps in the top-mounted radiators ensure stability even under intense use. At the same time, the GT PRO offers a high degree of everyday usability. This blend of performance and practicality makes it a perfect addition to our AMG GT family, which has something to offer for every sports car enthusiast,” said Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH and Head of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class & Mercedes Maybach divisions.

Features and design of the GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+

The PRO model incorporates aerodynamic refinements, including a new front apron with carbon-fibre air deflectors, an underbody profile, and a fixed rear wing. These changes reduce aerodynamic lift on the front axle by over 30 kilograms and enhance stability and precise steering behaviour at speed. The vehicle rides on lightweight AMG Performance 21-inch forged wheels in cross-spoke design in Himalaya Grey matte finish and features AMG’s ceramic composite braking system with six-piston front calipers, equipped with 420-millimetre brake discs on the front axle.

The GT 63 PRO also has additional air deflectors on the underbody, similar to those on the Mercedes-AMG ONE. These fins, which are located at the height of the front and rear axles, accelerate the airflow on the underbody. All measures are coordinated and interact with the rear wing concept, which increases downforce on the rear axle by around 15kg.

Inside, the PRO specification includes AMG Performance seats, an AMG Performance steering wheel finished in Nappa leather and MICROCUT microfibre, and an AMG Carbon Fibre package as standard, with front splitter, trim strips in the side sills, diffuser and rear wing in high-quality carbon fibre. Together, these features emphasise its motorsport-inspired character. Further standard appointments include climatised front seats, head-up display, DIGITAL LIGHT headlights, the Driving Assistance Package Plus and the Burmester surround sound system, which can be upgraded to the Burmester® high-end 3D surround sound system with 15 speakers and 1170 watts of system power at cost.

The GT 63 PRO can be further personalised with the AMG Night Package, which adds a black chrome finish to exterior elements such as the radiator shell, the Mercedes star at the rear and tailpipe trims. Inside, the interior trims are darkened with MANUFAKTUR trim elements in black chrome.  The package includes GT-specific 21-inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels painted in matte black.

The optional AMG Carbon Fibre Package complements the standard carbon fibre treatments on the outside and in the cabin, including the centre console, doors, and steering wheel. The AMG Carbon Fibre Package can be selected together with the AMG Night Package.
