VOLKSWAGEN HAS CONFIRMED LOCAL pricing and key specification highlights for two new plug-in hybrid SUVs: the all-new Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid and the all-new Volkswagen Tayron eHybrid. Arriving with advanced efficiency, impressive electric-only driving capability and the premium German engineering, both models strengthen the brand’s push toward accessible electrification for Australian families.

Built on Volkswagen’s latest generation plug-in hybrid platform, the Tiguan eHybrid and Tayron eHybrid combine a 1.5 litre TSI petrol engine with a powerful electric motor, delivering system outputs of 150kW or 200kW (model dependent). A 19.7kWh battery enables an electric-only driving range of 113 to 117km (WLTP), more than enough for the average daily commute and ideal for low-cost, low-emission local driving.

Both models support AC charging up to 11kW and DC fast charging up to 40kW, allowing drivers to replenish energy quickly whether at home, at work or on the go. Combined fuel consumption is an exceptional 1.6 to 1.8L/100km, elevating efficiency without compromising space, comfort or Volkswagen’s renowned driving confidence.

Arjun Nidigallu, Head of Product Volkswagen Passenger Vehicles, says, “Introducing the Tiguan eHybrid and Tayron eHybrid is a milestone for Volkswagen in Australia. These SUVs bring meaningful electric range, fast and flexible charging and the everyday usability our customers expect. This is how we make electrification practical and desirable for Australian families and it’s a clear step toward our future line-up.”

Clear value positioning within the range

Positioned just above their equivalent petrol Elegance and R-Line grades, the new eHybrid models deliver significant technology and efficiency gains for only a modest uplift. Customers gain electric-only driving capability, higher system outputs (150kW or 200kW), substantially reduced fuel consumption and convenient AC/DC charging, ensuring Volkswagen remains highly competitive in the mid-size SUV segment while offering a compelling and accessible bridge into electrification.

The Tayron eHybrid sits one size above, delivering increased cabin space with a significantly larger 705‑litre luggage capacity. With its own distinctive design and proportions, the Tayron provides Australian customers with a more spacious, family‑focused alternative.

Efficiency, performance and everyday versatility

Both the Tiguan eHybrid and Tayron eHybrid have been engineered for Australian lifestyles, with smooth electric commuting, long distance hybrid touring and confident SUV capability all in one vehicle. With Elegance and R-Line grades available across both models, customers can expect premium finishes, digital convenience and Volkswagen’s latest driver assistance technologies.
