CUPRA HAS ADDED AN ALL-NEW plug-in hybrid to the refreshed Leon Hatch range and confirmed pricing and specifications.

The arrival of the Leon Ve Hatch now completes CUPRA Australia’s local family of plug-in hybrid vehicles, with every combustion-based model line now available with a PHEV drivetrain across Leon Hatch, Leon Sportstourer, Formentor and Terramar.

The Leon Ve Hatch forms part of Cupra Australia’s expanding electrified portfolio and reinforces the brand’s commitment to combining performance, design and electrification in a way that remains emotionally engaging and uniquely Cupra. Joining the refreshed Leon range launched in late 2025, the new Leon Ve blends signature Cupra design and driving dynamics with meaningful everyday electric capability, creating a compelling alternative for customers seeking performance, style and greater electrified driving performance without committing fully to EV ownership.

Designed, developed and built in Barcelona, the Leon Ve introduces Cupra’s latest-generation plug-in hybrid system in a new 150kW configuration unique to the Australian Leon range. As with the existing VZe plug-in hybrid models within the lineup, Leon Ve focuses on delivering the sweet spot between electrified efficiency, engaging performance and day-to-day usability.

The result is a hatchback capable of travelling up to 123km on electric power alone under the latest WLTP Euro 6EB testing cycle, while still delivering the pulse-raising character expected from a Cupra.

For many Australian drivers, that means completing the daily commute, school run or urban errands almost entirely on electric power, while retaining the flexibility to escape the city without charging anxiety.

Cupra Australia Head of Product, Jeff Shafer, said the Leon Ve reflects the next stage of Cupra’s electrification strategy locally.

“The Leon Ve perfectly captures what Cupra stands for: performance, design and electrification with emotion,” Mr Shafer said.

“What makes this second-generation plug-in hybrid system so compelling is how naturally it integrates into daily life. With more than 100 kilometres of electric driving range, many customers will rarely need to use fuel during the week, while still retaining the flexibility and confidence to undertake longer journeys with ease.”

“For Cupra customers, lowering fuel consumption is only part of the equation. They still want something stylish, sporty and emotionally engaging. The Leon Ve delivers that balance in a way few vehicles in this segment can.”

Performance DNA and second-generation electrification for Leon

The Leon Ve is powered by a new-generation plug-in hybrid system pairing a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 110kW and 250Nm with an electric motor delivering 85kW and 330Nm. Combined system output stands at 150kW and 350Nm, enabling 0-100km/h acceleration in 7.7 seconds with strong off-the-line responsiveness characteristic of an electrified drivetrain.

At the centre of the system is a significantly larger 20kWh usable lithium-ion battery, almost doubling usable capacity compared with Cupra’s previous-generation PHEV technology. The increase in battery size unlocks over 100 kilometres of electric-only driving range and transforms the Leon Ve into a genuinely practical electrified solution for Australian conditions.

Charging capability has also taken a substantial leap forward compared to the first-generation system. AC charging capacity increases from 3.6kW to 11kW, while DC fast charging capability makes public charging faster and more convenient than ever before. The updated system also introduces enhanced energy recuperation functionality, with drivers able to adjust recuperation levels via the infotainment screen.

Official combined fuel consumption is rated at just 1.4L/100km under WLTP testing, reinforcing the Leon Ve’s ability to dramatically reduce fuel usage without sacrificing everyday usability or driving enjoyment.

Distinctively Cupra: well-equipped from the outset

The Leon Ve benefits from the full suite of updates introduced with the recent Leon facelift, including Cupra’s evolved shark-nose front design, triangular daytime running light signature and full-width rear LED ‘coast-to-coast’ lighting incorporating an illuminated Cupra logo.

The Leon Ve also introduces unique 18-inch ‘Garbi’ alloy wheels previously seen on the Leon V Tribe Edition, while independent rear suspension further enhances ride quality and dynamic performance.

Inside, the cabin continues Cupra’s driver-focused approach, combining sporty design with high levels of standard equipment. Dinamica-appointed sports bucket seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, heated Cupra Supersport steering wheel and tri-zone climate control all feature as standard.

Technology is centred around a 10.25-inch digital cockpit and Cupra’s latest 12.9-inch infotainment system with integrated navigation, illuminated climate sliders and improved processing capability. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and wireless phone charging are also included.

Both Mode 2 and Mode 3 charging cables are included as standard equipment, reinforcing the Leon Ve’s focus on everyday practicality and ease of ownership.

As always with Cupra, specification starts where others end. Compared with the previous-generation Leon VZe, the Leon Ve delivers meaningful improvements in technology, charging capability, electric range and interior appointments, despite sitting lower in the performance hierarchy than the flagship VZe models elsewhere in the Cupra lineup.
