THE PUSH TO ELECTRIFICATION continues with the release of Subaru’s first electric offering, the oddly-named Uncharted.

Subaru suggests it has the potency and precision of WRX, the balance and corner-carving agility of BRZ and the sure-footed, multi-terrain capability of its SUV range. Each of those characteristics has shaped what the Uncharted is – a vehicle that is composed and confident, yet responsive, engaging and unmistakably alive.

Settle into the driver’s seat and the intelligence of Uncharted’s cabin is immediately apparent. Every screen is responsive, every interface intuitive, every system anticipating the next input before it is made. This is not technology for technology’s sake – it is decades of Subaru vehicle engineering applied to create a connected, premium in-cabin experience that works seamlessly with the driver rather than demanding attention from them.

At the heart of it, a 14-inch high-definition centre touchscreen puts navigation, media and vehicle settings within immediate reach, while a 7-inch LCD Multi-Information Display keeps critical vehicle data clearly in the driver’s sightline. A Panoramic 360-degree View Monitor delivers greater awareness of the vehicle’s surroundings, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto alongside dual wireless phone charging help ensure the driver’s digital world remains within reach. Physical buttons remain to put tactile control at the fingertips – a considered touch that keeps eyes where they belong. Multi-colour ambient lighting, a digital rear-view mirror and a 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system complete a cabin that feels as premium as it performs.

Underneath that cabin is a dual-motor all-electric powertrain producing a combined 252kW, working in constant harmony with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive to distribute power to all four wheels, in real time. The engineering intent was never raw output alone, but to translate electric power into usable grip – a capability refined through decades of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive development, now amplified by the immediacy of electric torque delivery. Precise, controlled and confidence-inspiring across wet asphalt, loose gravel or the kind of backroad that does not appear on the map, the Uncharted covers 0 to 100 km/h in approximately five seconds with no lag or hesitation, just rapid and responsive electric power delivered exactly where it is needed.

A 74.7kWh CATL lithium-ion battery is mounted low within the chassis, lowering the centre of gravity, sharpening the handling and delivering an estimated driving range of up to 522km. An advanced thermal management system helps keep performance consistent under sustained load and demanding conditions, built for the long-term durability Subaru drivers expect. When it is time to recharge, up to 150 kW DC fast charging – compatible with Australia’s largest fast-charging network – takes Uncharted from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes.

Outside, the Uncharted carries a visual identity that sets it apart on the road. Its fastback-inspired silhouette and steeply sloping roofline give it the profile of something already in motion — sculpted and aerodynamic from every angle. Flush, almost seamlessly blended rear door handles preserve the clean sweep of the bodywork, while striking LED lighting completes a design that is unmistakably its own.

Because it wears the Subaru badge, diverse terrain capability is not optional – it is standard. Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive works alongside Dual-mode X-Mode with Grip Control, Downhill Assist Control and a Multi-Terrain Monitor to keep the Uncharted composed and confident well beyond the edge of the sealed road. With 211mm of ground clearance, it is as prepared for the detour down an unsealed track as it is for the daily commute.

Uncharted’s advanced safety is built around a complete, three-layer approach that works with you every second you’re behind the wheel. It is not something you switch on or think about. It is something you come to rely on, quickly.

It brings together an intelligent suite of safety and driver assistance systems designed to support every journey without intruding on it. Subaru Safety Sense actively monitors the road ahead, providing collision avoidance assistance and lane assistance at speed, while Vision Assist extends that awareness to blind spots, rear cross traffic and safe door opening on busy streets. A Driver Monitoring System completes the picture, reading attention levels and fatigue in real time – technology that stays in the background until the moment it needs to step forward.

“The Uncharted needs to be experienced to be truly understood, it will surprise you in all the best ways. It’s super energised, nimble, corners on a dime and makes you feel like the car constantly wants more from you. It carries the ground clearance of an SUV but the soul of a performance car. That’s the result of taking the best of Subaru engineering and pouring it into one exceptionally well-crafted Sport Electric Vehicle,” said Scott Lawrence, General Manager, Subaru Australia.

The all-new Subaru Uncharted arrives in Australia mid-year in a single, feature-packed variant – Uncharted AWD – priced at $59,990. Two options, a panoramic roof or a panoramic roof with two-tone paint pack, are available at additional cost.

The all-new Uncharted joins the updated Solterra and the all-new Trailseeker in Subaru Australia’s Sport Electric Vehicle (SEV) range .
